Our Thesis
The Picks and Shovels of the Lunar Economy
Getting to the Moon is only the beginning.
The thesis
Look past the mission
A permanent lunar economy will require an interconnected network of infrastructure: communications, positioning and timing, reliable power, autonomous systems, transportation, surface mobility, construction, resource utilization, servicing and sustainment.
Vencore Space Group studies the companies and technologies building those underlying systems: the infrastructure that allows individual missions to become a functioning economy.
We are particularly focused on communications and positioning, navigation and timing (PNT): the links and signals that allow landers to communicate, rovers to navigate, operators to coordinate and multiple commercial activities to function as a network.
We look past the mission to the infrastructure every mission will eventually depend on.
What we do
Research. Invest. Engage.
Research
We study the emerging lunar and cislunar infrastructure ecosystem, identifying technologies, companies, dependencies and potential bottlenecks before the infrastructure becomes obvious.
02Invest
Vencore makes thesis-driven personal investments across public equities, space-focused funds and selected private and crowdfunded opportunities.
03Engage
We engage with builders, investors, researchers, policymakers and operators shaping the emerging off-world economy.
04Connect the Stack
Rather than evaluating companies in isolation, we look for dependencies between infrastructure layers, and ask what must exist before the next layer can scale.
What piece of infrastructure does your business depend upon that does not really exist yet?
How we think
Independent. Thesis-driven. Personally invested.
Vencore Space Group is not a traditional venture fund and does not compete for major government contracts.
We are an independent research and investment platform focused on understanding which companies and technologies can become the essential connective tissue of a permanent off-world economy, and following those infrastructure layers before they become obvious.
That independence gives Vencore the freedom to look across public companies, emerging private companies, technologies and entire infrastructure layers without having to force the lunar economy into a conventional fund structure.
Founder
J. Erik Dyce
President & CEO
For Erik Dyce, the connection to space began long before Vencore Space Group.
As a child during the Apollo era, he listened on shortwave radio for mission communications. That fascination with signals grew into amateur radio, commercial broadcasting, aviation and a lifelong interest in communications and navigation.
Today, Dyce is a multi-engine, instrument-rated pilot and has spent decades working around radio, spectrum, navigation, operational communications and complex real-world systems.
His other career has been building and operating infrastructure on Earth.
For more than four decades, Dyce worked in large-scale public venues and live-event operations, including leadership at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, before creating Vencore LLC in Colorado in 2012. Vencore began in the venue industry, the VENues at the CORE of the business, and later expanded into the marine industry through Vencore Marine Group.
Vencore Space Group represents the next evolution of that idea: applying an operator’s perspective to the infrastructure required for humanity’s next permanent economic frontier.
From venues to marine infrastructure to the Moon, the question has remained remarkably consistent: What infrastructure has to work before everything else can happen?
The Vencore story
Founded in Colorado by J. Erik Dyce after four decades in large-scale public venues and live-event operations. VENues at the CORE.
Expansion into marine infrastructure. A second chapter of building and operating the systems everything else depends on.
The next evolution: an operator’s perspective applied to the infrastructure of a permanent lunar economy.
